Why this tool is private
Your date is compared with today in this tab by your own browser — the countdown is calendar arithmetic on a date you picked, and it is never sent anywhere. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged. No sign-up, no uploads, nothing to install.
How to use the Days Until Calculator
- Pick a target date with the date picker. It starts on the next January 1, so you can see a countdown immediately.
- Read the breakdown: total days, weeks and remaining days, business days, months and remaining days, and the full years, months and days figure.
- Pick a date in the past and the display flips: it tells you how many days ago that date was, with the same breakdown.
About this Days Until Calculator
How many days until Christmas? A birthday, a wedding, a holiday, a deadline? The question sounds simple until a leap day, a month boundary or a run of weekends makes mental arithmetic unreliable. This countdown to date tool answers it exactly: pick any date and see the days between today and date in days, weeks, business days and months, with no sign-up and nothing uploaded. It works as a business days calculator for deadlines, an anniversary counter for dates in the past, and a plain countdown for everything worth looking forward to.
Worked examples
Christmas is the classic countdown. From 1 December, Christmas Day is 24 days away — December has 25 days up to and including the 25th, minus the starting day itself. The tool agrees with careful hand-counting; it just never miscounts February.
A wedding date shows the months figure at its best. From 1 June 2026 to a wedding on 20 September 2026 is 111 days — June contributes 29 remaining days, July 31, August 31 and September 20 — also expressed as 3 months and 19 days: three full months from 1 June to 1 September, plus 19 days. The months figure is the one people plan around, because venues and invitations are booked in months, not day counts.
A deadline shows why business days exist. From Monday 2 March 2026 to Friday 13 March 2026 is 11 calendar days but only 9 business days: the two weekend days in between do not count, and the count runs from the day after the start date up to and including the deadline itself. If your deadline is the Friday, you have nine working days to meet it, not eleven.
Calendar days vs business days
Calendar days count every day, weekends included. They suit countdowns — holidays, birthdays, weddings — because the event does not move for the weekend. Business days count Monday to Friday only, and suit work: deadlines, delivery estimates, notice periods and project plans.
One honest limit: public holidays are not subtracted. Holidays vary by country, region and employer, so no single list would be right for every user, and baking in one country's holidays would mislead everyone else. If your deadline spans a holiday, subtract that day by hand. The tool states this rather than pretending otherwise.
Which figure should you quote? For a contract or a boss, quote business days and say so. For friends and family, quote calendar days. And when a deadline is tight, check both: a Friday deadline that looks comfortable in calendar days can be two days shorter in business days once the weekend is removed.
How the countdown is calculated
Both dates are converted to UTC midnights before subtraction. That matters because local clock times shift with daylight saving: in spring, a day can be 23 hours long, and in autumn 25, and naive timestamp subtraction would occasionally report a day too many or too few. UTC midnights have no daylight saving, so the count is pure calendar arithmetic — the answer you would get counting dates on a wall calendar.
The years, months and days figure borrows the way exact ages are worked out. From 25 October 2026 to 1 January 2027 is 68 days, expressed as 2 months and 7 days: two full months from 25 October to 25 December, plus 7 days to 1 January. Months are not 30 days here — they are calendar months, with their real lengths, including February in leap years.
Leap years deserve a note, because they are where hand-counting most often goes wrong. A year is a leap year if it divides by four, unless it divides by one hundred and not by four hundred — so 2024 and 2028 are leap years, 1900 was not, and 2000 was. The tool applies that rule to every February in the span, so a countdown crossing 29 February counts it, and one that does not, does not. If you ever doubt a result, check February: it is almost always where a wrong count went wrong.
Anniversaries and dates in the past
Pick a date in the past and the tool runs the same breakdown backwards, which makes it an anniversary counter as well as a countdown. A wedding anniversary, a work anniversary, a sobriety date, the day a business opened: the tool tells you how many days ago it was, in years, months and days, so the tenth anniversary does not have to be worked out from a calendar.
The years, months and days figure is the one that reads naturally for anniversaries — 10 years, 3 months, 12 days means more to most people than 3,775 days — but the raw day count is there too, because some milestones are counted in days: a hundred days, a thousand days, a year of daily practice.
Daily streaks are the other case where the raw count matters more than the calendar figure. A hundred days of practice, a thousand days since a decision, a year of writing every morning: those milestones are counted in days by the people keeping them, and the day count here is exact, not an approximation from months.
How it works
The calculator converts both today and your target date to UTC midnights and subtracts, so the day count is exact calendar arithmetic and daylight-saving changes can never add or remove an hour. Business days count Monday to Friday only, and the years, months and days figure borrows across months of different lengths and leap years, the same way an exact age is worked out. Pick a date in the past and the same breakdown runs backwards, telling you how long ago it was.

Frequently asked questions
How many days until Christmas / my birthday?
Pick the date — 25 December for Christmas, or your birthday — and the tool shows the exact day count from today, plus weeks, business days and months. From 1 December, Christmas Day is 24 days away. The count is always measured from today, not from when you last checked.
Does it count business days?
Yes. Business days count Monday to Friday only, starting the day after today and including the target date. From Monday 2 March 2026 to Friday 13 March 2026, that is 9 business days out of 11 calendar days. Public holidays are not subtracted, because they vary by country — if your deadline spans a holiday, subtract that day by hand.
What if I pick a date in the past?
The display flips and tells you how long ago that date was, with the same breakdown: days, weeks, business days and years, months and days. It works as an anniversary counter — a wedding date, a work start date or any milestone — with no separate mode to switch into.
Is my date uploaded?
No. The countdown is computed in your browser from the date you picked and today's date, and neither is sent to a server, stored or logged. Open your browser's network tab while you change the date and you will see no upload request.
Does it subtract public holidays?
No, deliberately. Public holidays differ by country, region and employer, so any built-in list would be wrong for most users. The business-day figure counts Monday to Friday only; if your span includes a public holiday, subtract it by hand. The tool states this limit on the page rather than hiding it.
Why does the result say weeks and days?
Because a raw day count is hard to picture. Saying 68 days is precise but abstract; 9 weeks and 5 days maps onto calendars and plans at a glance. Both describe the same span — weeks are the day count divided by seven, remainder shown — so use whichever reads better.
How are years, months and days worked out?
The way exact ages are worked out: full calendar years first, then full calendar months, then the remaining days, borrowing across months of different lengths and leap years. From 25 October 2026 to 1 January 2027 is 2 months and 7 days, not 68 divided by 30 — because calendar months are not 30 days long.
